Prevent Car Burglaries And Vandalism-Safety Tip Of The Week

click for more info

These tips are courtesy of the Colorado Springs Police Department and their neighborhood watch program.

Always park your vehicle in a locked garage and always keep your car in a well-lit area at home. Park your vehicle near porch lights and install Motion Detector Lights which will illuminate your driveway at night. Keep your windows completely rolled up and don’t park in a dangerous neighborhood.

Vandalism and theft can be avoided if you keep your car in an area where there are more people living who can keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Probably 40% of car break-ins wouldn’t happen if your keys or valuables didn’t catch thieves wandering eyes. If thieves don’t see valuables in your car they are much less likely to think about breaking into it

Never leave your keys in the car and never keep an unattended firearm in your car. Cars that have GPS devices mounted on the windshield in plain view make good targets for thieves. Break-ins may be deterred if you have stickers on your car that say a security system is hooked up to your vehicle.

One tip we learned some time ago from the police department was to never keep your vehicle registration and insurance papers in your car. Many people think that the law requires that-not true! The law says that you have to present them if stopped. You can keep them in your wallet. If thieves steal these documents, then they know where you live and can gain more information for identity theft and/or burglary
