Visible anti-theft devices like steering wheel locks, steering column collars and brake pedal locks may discourage a would-be thief from breaking into your car. Park in well-lit public places when running errands. Obviously a car will be safer in the garage than in the driveway. So whenever possible keep your car in the garage and lock the garage door. Never leave your keys in the car even if it’s in the garage. Last week one of the residents in my apartment complex had a relatively new Porsche stolen. The idiot left his keys in the car. True story!!
It’s common sense that many unlocked vehicles get stolen, so remember to lock your car. The goal is to make your car less desirable than others and a locked door is a simple deterrent. Also keep your windows closed when you’re parked and don’t leave your window open so a slender arm can reach in through even a narrow opening to unlock a door. Never leave your car running unattended and always take your keys with you.
