Vehicle Safety “Checklist”-Safety Tip Of The Week

click for more details

A few weeks ago on the safety tip blog posting, I asked if anybody had some suggestions. I got a reply from Mark LeClair. Mark is a disabled Veteran after serving over 15 years in the Navy. Parachuting accidents shortened a very loved career in Naval Special Warfare.

Mark trains the Army full time on all firearms and systems on a weapons simulator and has trained over 78,000 soldiers (and others listed) in 6 years. His company is called “Smart Tactics”

He and his employees provide personal protection courses, custom courses, firearm lessons, advanced tactics and NRA Instructor certifications.

He offered us this “vehicle checklist” for personal safety courses that he teaches
:
“-Approach vehicle with door key in non-dominant hand

-Be aware of anyone loitering around your area

-Be watchful of anyone parked next to your car and still inside

-Enter through passenger side if nervous about someone parked next to your car and still inside

-Check the backseat

-Enter vehicle

-Close door and immediately lock it

-Start car

-Place in appropriate gear

-Then put on seatbelt

-Then worry about everything else

-Be aware using mirrors and have an escape plan

This has been quite effective and I added a video his website (www.smartweaponstactics.com), which provides a decent visual to those that do not understand how easy it is to be surprised.”

Thanks to Mark for allowing us to use his tips.

Check out his website (www.smartweaponstactics.com) he has some articles that are worth reading and you may even want his services as an instructor.

I would add one tip-carry a self defense utilty product like the Diablo Flashlight Stun Gun

Most Popular Stun Guns-#3 of 4

This is a review of four of the most popular stun guns. We’ll compare and contrast them so you can tell the differences. They are slightly different styles.

Number three on the list is the Expandable Stun Baton that’s also rechargeable and is 1,000,000 volts. It has a flashlight and a 130 dB alarm so it offers three levels of protection. It is an extremely popular product to carry in your car. When it’s closed it is 12.5 inches long and at the touch of a button it extends to 21.25 inches. When it’s extended it electrifies to 1,000,000 volts. It includes a nylon holster with belt loop and has a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. Many of our customers use this for dog attack defense. When it is activated the fling sparks make a very intimidating sound and sight-enough to scare an assailant or dog away.

Feedback on these posts is welcomed. Have you ever used an expandable or telescopic stun baton? They are effective against 2 and four legged dogs. Please share your experience. We want to hear your thoughts.

Sexual Assault Prevention Tips-Safety Tip Of The Week

Believe it or not there are several things that women can do to be pro active in preventing sexual assaults and possibly rapes. Knowing how an attacker thinks can work to your advantage. Potential victims can learn from these facts and put a plan in place to be better prepared to fend off an assault.

THE LOCATION. The most common place for an assault is a grocery store parking lot. Attackers figure that a victim’ hands and minds are distracted and are easy prey. Knowing this can make you better prepared and more on guard to fend off an attacker.

THE TIME. The most common time for an attack is early morning. Think about it-there are less people around and thus less witnesses. Knowing this can put you on guard if you must be out and about in the early am.

THE LOOK. It is a fact that women with long hair specifically ponytails or braids that can easily be grabbed are more likely targets than women with short hair. It is just a fact! Attackers also look for women wearing loose fitting clothing.

THE FIGHT. It is also a fact that if ANY resistance is in the offing, most attackers move on quickly. They are expecting little or no resistance. When they encounter resistance it takes more time which increase the chances of discovery. So FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.

THE CARRY. How you carry yourself makes an impression. If your head is up and you walk confidently and quickly you are less likely a target than someone with their head down and walking slowly-just a fact.

WHAT YOU CARRY. If you carry a Pepper Spray, taser, or stun gun and know how to use it not only will it give you a better sense of confidence but will also give you time to escape if you need to use it.

Learn from these facts about assaults and develop a plan to protect yourself.

More Self Defense Tips For Women-Safety Tip Of The Week

This is the third in a series of tips for women for their self defense. You can read the others HERE and HERE

Unfortunately women have to go thru life wondering when they might be attacked-NOT IF-WHEN! Because women are attacked by at least a nine to one margin over men.

We are trying to increase awareness about what is a real problem: assaults of any kind on women. Here are some more self defense tips that could save their lives.

REACT QUICKLY. Fact of the matter is that an assault situation demands very quick reaction time. The old expression “he who hesitates is lost” is just about right on target. This is where practicing comes in handy. A reflex reaction vs. “gee where’s my pepper spray?” will save the day and you.

FIGHT BACK! Your life may be at stake. Don’t just sit there fight back with everything you have. And this is not a garden party FIGHT DIRTY. Gouge eyes, kick private parts, scream, whatever you have to do. Most assailants are not expecting a fight. Among other things it will get you time which is in your distinct favor.

SURPRISE. The bad guys use it all the time in their assaults on unsuspecting women. Turn the tables on them and surprise them by using a disguised self defense weapon like a pepper spray or stun gun.

SURVIVE AND ESCAPE. Your first priority is to survive followed closely by escaping.

WEAPON OF AVAILABILITY. Use whatever you can get your hands on. A pen, keys, or anything nearby that is harder than your hand.

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!! Find a friend and go thru scenarios that may occur. When they do happen you’ll be ready.

Carry some self defense products like stun guns and/or PEPPER SPRAYS. Their purpose is to allow you time to escape. They will give you from 5-45 minutes to escape to get help or just escape and survive.

Above all use your head a.k.a. common sense.

Feedback on these posts is welcomed. Have you ever practiced what you would do in an assault situation? Please share your experience. We want to hear your thoughts.

Self Defense-The Value Of Practice For An Assault Situation-Safety Tip Of The Week

Everyone who has an important task to do, practices for it. From sports teams to children playing the piano from emergency responders to our armed forces. Practice, as the expression goes, makes for perfect. It is no different when it comes to protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Sometimes the difference in time in how you react to an assault situation can make the difference between life and death or at least severe trauma. If you react quickly it may confuse the assailant because he is not expecting any resistance usually.

Sue is walking to her car in a dark part of the parking lot. She hears footsteps behind her and is fearful. She reaches in her purse and pulls out her Small Fry pink stun gun. She flips the safety switch and presses the on button as she is turning around. By the time she has turned around to face the person he is 10 feet away but he sees the flying sparks and hears the intimidating sounds a charging stun gun can make. She yells “Back Off.” Fortunately for Sue he did.

The whole episode took 2 seconds but her fast reaction saved her from an uncertain fate.

She practiced using her stun gun until it became second nature. She did the same with her pepper spray. Fast reaction times make the difference and that only comes with PRACTICE.

This is the best place to get your Self Defense Products.

Holiday Shopping Safety Tips-Safety Tip Of The Week

Happy veteran’s day to all you vets. Thanks you for your service to keep us free.

I know this may seem early but black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, the day after Thanksgiving is two weeks from today. So I thought it best to get these thoughts into your mind now so you can refer to them again. We will probably repeat them before Christmas.

Holiday shopping is a tradition for many people. For predators, it is their biggest time of the year. Once predators see a woman coming out of a store either pushing a cart or carrying a child or talking on a cell phone they get anxious because they see easy pickings in their midst.

Here are some common sense safety tips for your holiday shopping safety.

Shop during the day and avoid night shopping if you can.

Always go shopping with a friend

Park as close to the store as possible.

Park in areas that are well lit.

If you feel the need ask for help to get to your car.

Focus on what you’re doing. Stay off your cell phone and pay attention to your surroundings.

Carry your puse underneath your arm not over your shoulder.

Have your car keys ready and out of your purse. You can use them as a weapon to if you need to.

Avoid talking to strangers on your way to your car.

Use common sense. Pay attention to that sixth sense women have.

Always keep some Self-Defense Products with you like a stun gun or a pepper spray or both-just in case.

Follow these common sense safety tips when holiday shopping and you will be around for the next holiday.

Feedback on these posts is appreciated. Have you been a victim of an assault while shopping? Please share your experience. We want to hear your thoughts.

Safety Tip Of The Week-Self-Defense Tips For Women-Part Two

Last week we did part one of self defense tips for women. As we discussed women consistently outdo men as the targets of violence by a 9 to 1 margin. So it is no wonder that self-defense companies including Taser International target women for their products. There are more pink pepper sprays, stun guns and tasers on the market today than there have ever been.

Here is part two of self-defense tips for women.

Body language is important in several aspects of life. When it comes to defending yourself, a body language that bubbles over with self-confidence is less likely to be attacked than one that is not.

Develop a survivor mentality. Being aware that you’re a potential target for most your life is a good start.

If you’re attacked, simultaneously reach for your self-defense product and start screaming your head off. You don’t get points for style. So biting, scratching and kicking all count. It is your life we’re talking about here. There is no such thing as fighting dirty: you do what you have to do.

Use anything you can get your hands on if you don’t have a self-defense weapon such as a ball point pen, keys, a can of hairspray, fingernails-anything that might cause damage.

Your priorities are to survive an encounter with the assailant and escape.

Women are blessed with much better instincts than men. Trust those instincts! When the hair on the back of your neck starts to tingle be ready to react.

In a self-defense situation, often how quickly you react will determine the outcome.

Learn some basic points on the body that will get a quick submission from an assailant. Eye gouges, groin kicks, a hard punch to the ear, the palm of the hand to the base of the nose will all get you out of trouble quickly.

Having a self-defense product like stun gun or pepper spray is not enough. You need to know how to use it and practice using it so that when the time comes, and it will come, using it becomes second nature.

Always keep some Self-Defense Products with you like a stun gun or a pepper spray or both-just in case.

Safety Tip Of The Week-Self-Defense Tips For Women-Part One

It is well established fact that women are the targets of violence in nine out 10 cases-everything from assaults, rapes, domestic violence. Even in home invasions, women are the preferred targets.

So it makes sense for women to be more aware of that fact so they can learn how to defend themselves a little bit better. Here are some self-defense tips for women that may end up saving their lives. But guys, you should take a look at these too and pass them along to all the women in your life.

There a lot of tips to share so we split them up into several parts. Here is part one.

Develop a plan to improve your self defense. That includes dry runs on what you will do in case of an emergency.

Walk with a sense of self-confidence. Of course back it up with some self-defense training. Having a sense of self-confidence shows through.

Use restraint and common sense. Don’t get baited into a fight. It takes two to tango. It’s easier to walk away with your head on.

Keep to well lit areas and go with a friend. Avoid dangerous parts of town like the plague.

Once you learn self-defense skills, practice them until they become second nature. They will last you a lifetime but only a few practice them.

Develop a sense of awareness. Be aware of where you are and who is around you.

Never act like an easy target. Don’t look like a victim. Someone who is walking with her head down or talking on a cell phone makes for easy pickings for the bad guys.

Never hitchhike. Walk, take a taxi, use a bus but never hitchhike.

Don’t be paranoid. Just beware and aware that there are threats around you.

Always keep some Self Defense Products with you like a stun gun or a pepper spray or both-just in case.

Self Defense Items-Practice Can Save Your Life

Police and fire departments do it. Companies do it. Schools from grade schools to high schools to colleges do it. Everybody does it. What are we talking about? We’re talking about what to do in case of emergency. Do they know something that you don’t know? Maybe! But just in case you don’t know it: here it is. Practice makes for perfect.

When it comes to your self defense it is no different. Even though self defense products are meant to be very simple to use, and they are, you need to learn how to use them and practice using them.

I always recommend that you run through a few scenarios with your friends or you can do it on your own. When the time comes to defend yourself, and chances are it will come, that you can act reflexively instead of stopping to think about what to do and how to do it. It is very important to have that reflexive reaction because the difference of a few seconds can save your life.

You don’t want to be caught in a situation where you’re confronted with an assailant and you have to think about where your pepper spray is or how to use it.

Check out all of our Self Defense Items.

Workplace Safety And Security-Safety Tip Of The Week

Good Morning Folks. It is Friday! Ready for a huge holiday weekend?

Many people mistakenly think that there’s safety in numbers and because you’re at work you are in a safe environment. The fact of the matter is that workplace safety and security is something that should be taken very seriously because threats are everywhere-even in the workplace.

You would think a hospital is a safe place when in fact hospitals represent a significant safety and security threat to the nurses and doctors who work there. Recently several hospitals have started allowing their personnel to carry pepper sprays and stun guns for personal safety and security.

The most severe threats to personnel are at night in poorly lit areas like parking lots and stairwells exiting office buildings. Criminals hang out in these areas because the targets that they seek are usually distracted by work considerations and are not paying attention.

–So be aware of your surroundings.
–Avoid stairwells-get your exercise some other way.
–Use the buddy system when walking to your car in a darkened parking lot. Go with a friend or ask someone with building security to accompany you.
–And the last suggestion, always carry a stun gun or pepper spray with you.

Check out our complete line of stun guns, pepper sprays and other Self Defense Products.

And don’t forget to give us your feedback on these posts. We want to hear your thoughts.

Have a great weekend-Happy Labor day!!
