Home Security Tips-The Real Value Of Neighborhood Watch-Safety Tip Of The Week

Last week I attended some training for the neighborhood watch program where I am block Captain for my building. The lead trainer, who is a volunteer, talked a lot about home security issues in general safety issues affecting the city-namely the shortage of police officers in the current budget crisis.

He pointed out the importance of the neighborhood watch program, especially now with fewer police officers on the payroll. He told us that burglaries for example were up 10% in the city last year and so far this year were up 15%-one of the few areas of crime that’s on the increase.

We talked about some ideas that could be used to help improve your home security. Right at the top of the list were motion activated spotlights and security cameras. Our trainer told us that real security cameras can be expensive and that Fake Security Cameras were a viable alternative.

I found out that the local police department does training classes for both personal security and home security depending on availability of officers. They will even do a home safety audit.

He recommends keeping some Self Defense Products located around the house in case of a home invasion.

Strobe 8 Pc DIY Home Security System

CLICK For More INFO

Many people think that home security systems are expensive. And for most of them they are right! But here’s a do-it-yourself 8 piece security alarm system that offers the same protection as a professionally installed system at a deeply discounted price.

The strobe wireless Home Security System has one motion detector alarm and two glass break sensors that can be used with the two magnetic contact sensors. The motion detector can detect motion up to 30 feet away. The glass break sensors detect vibration caused by an intruder attempting to break in. If the Motion Detector, the Glass Break Sensor(s), or the Magnetic Contact detects an intruder it will send a signal (RF) to the External Siren, which will respond with an ear piercing Siren and Strobe Light. It is one of the most effective do-it-yourself home security alarm systems you can get.

Two IR remote controls are included one of which is a panic alarm.

Outdoor Home Security-The Voice Alert System

Voice Alert --CLICK for more DETAILS

Most all home security systems are for internal use-inside the home. The voice alert system works outdoors. It can be used for businesses as well as homes.

The Voice Alert System has a base unit, which is located inside the house and up to six receiver/transmitters that are completely weatherproof that go outdoors. The passive infrared motion detection technology in each receiver/transmitter sends a signal to the base unit. When motion is detected, a prerecorded message announces what is going on. It has an effective range of 1000 feet in open space and up to 300 feet through walls. Users record their own message-for example, “someone is entering the driveway” or “someone is in the pool area”. The unit sets up in minutes and everything you need for installation is included

Home Security: Wireless Security Systems-The Top Three

Home security systems are generally considered to be the most effective way to protect your home against burglary or home invasions. Just ask a big company like ADT why they do so many commercials on television and so much advertising and print media. The demand for home security is at an all-time high. Out of all the systems that exist for home security a wireless home alarm system is generally considered to be the best.

Wireless alarms like door alarms and window alarms are inexpensive and very effective at scaring burglars away once they get inside the house. A home alarm system is more expensive but can do so much more for you in terms of home security.

Here are the top three wireless home alarm systems for you to compare to see if one is suitable for your home alarm security.

The first is the Home Safe wireless system. It includes a base control unit with keypad that is programmable and an alarm of 105 db. It has one wireless window/door sensor with a range of up to 300 feet and one motion detector sensor that has a range of up to 24 feet. If the alarm is triggered, the system calls up to five emergency phone numbers that you program on your own. You can add up to 14 additional sensors. The panic button that’s included on the remote, works as a caretaker emergency notification system for the elderly.

The second one is the eight piece home Security Alarm System. This system provides professional quality security at a do it yourself price. It includes one motion detector alarm which can detect motion up to 10 meters away and two glass break sensors. Once armed, it will respond with an ear piercing alarm and a blinding strobe light. The system can be used for home or business which makes it very flexible.

The third system is the Voice Alert system that operates a little bit differently. It is an “annunciator” system. The base unit can support up to six sensors-two are included with the product. The homeowners record their own alert message for each area covered which is a 40′ x 40′ area. The unit will cover up to 1000 feet in open space and 300 feet through walls. It uses passive infrared technology for the sensors similar to radar. The sensors are weatherproof. The main advantage of this system is that it can cover a huge area but it’s mostly for external security.

Those are three of the top wireless alarm systems for home security. As you can see there are some differences between them. One may be better than the other for your particular needs.

The Voice Alert System can cover a bigger area and is mainly for outdoor use.

Home Security Systems-Cheap Ways To Do It

A home is, generally speaking, the most expensive thing a married couple ever buys. And even though the average price of a home has dropped substantially in the last several years, the average cost is somewhere north of $200,000.00. And yet statistics show that more people own security systems for their car than for their home. One of the reasons for that is they consider home security to be too expensive.

Yes it’s true you can spend an arm and a leg on home security. Getting a home security system can end up being very expensive even if they give you free equipment because you are committed to a three-year monitoring program. For most people, home security systems are just out of reach financially.

Here we are going to show you some cheap ways to improve your home security. They are not fool-proof but what security system is?

The first way is to look at your home as a burglar would. Are there any obstacles that are obvious to would-be burglars? Do you have any signs in your front yard warning of vicious dogs? Or a sign for a security system? You don’t need a dog or a system-just a sign will do. One of my favorites is an NRA sticker on your front window or a sign that says “Security provided by Smith & Wesson.”

Eliminate any shrubbery along lower-level doors and windows. How is the light around your house at night? The bad guys do not like well-lit places. They want to have places where they can hide to break into your house. Most burglaries are done during the day so they need those hiding places.

The biggest enemies of burglars are time, light and noise. The longer it takes a burglar to get into your house the less likely he is to pursue it. If you have motion activated spotlights outside or lights on the inside of a house that are on timers so they can be on when you are gone, those are a big help. If they do get into your house, do you have any alarms? The noisier they are the better!

You can get window alarms and door alarms for under $10.00. You can get some warning signs that are cheap as well. Or better, make up your own.

Burglars don’t like seeing security cameras. One of the best security cameras is the pan/tilt Home Security Camera. You can hook it up outside your front door and have it point in any direction. Once it is properly connected to your TV, you can see what your camera sees on your TV screen. It’s a great way to prevent home invasion.

Home Security-Burglary Booty on Craigslist

A lot of people are out of work these days. The latest statistics show almost 10% of the workforce is unemployed. Another recent statistic shows that that level of unemployment will continue for approximately 2 more years. For many people, a way to survive is thru crime. That is just a fact.

Ordinary people who are honest get desperate. When there’s no help available and no job, they turn to crime and home burglary is probably the lowest risk, highest reward crime you can do. Even if you do get caught, which is highly unlikely, the penalties for home burglary are laughable.

But what you do with things stolen other than cash? Many people are turning to selling things on eBay or on Craigslist. Here is a story about some people who did just that out in LA. The victims of a home burglary saw what they thought was their belongings, which were somewhat specialized, listed for sale on Craigslist. They reported it to law enforcement authorities who did an undercover sting to recover the stolen property.

When police arrested the Craigslist seller, they found other property, including marijuana and cash.

You can read the whole story HERE.
